Nigerian rapper Vector was the guest on a
recent episode of Da Chat with Zinia on
HFTv Africa and he spoke on a number of
interesting subjects such as besting
competition in the Nigerian music industry,
beef with Ikechukwu and the rest and the
paradigm shift in hip hop.
The King Kong rapper stated that he’s
maintained his dominance by being his
natural self as everyone else is taken.
According to the rapper, the culture in hip
hop has changed over the years as people
are now more concerned with issues such
as women, money and everything in between
as against touching on topics with social
values.
He also hammered on the fact that music
with substance leaves a more lasting legacy
than music without content.
However, the entertainer calls for fellow
recording and performing artistes to find the
equilibrium with their crafts as making
money is also important as much as
substance has been preached.
Vector then spoke on reasons his Lafiaji
album has been on hold for a bit, as he’s
looked to add some more elements of
originality and message in it.
On making money in the entertainment
industry, the rapper advised that entertainers
deal with people who have the requisite
business skills.
In response to the cause of rifts between
artistes and record labels, he said
desperation and the urge to hit stardom
almost immediately pushes artistes into
signing terrible deals with labels.
Speaking on his former label YSG, Vector
said though no longer signed to them he
didn’t lose the rights to materials released
under them as he still makes money off his
songs in forms of royalties and sales.
In the other areas of the three-part
interview, he talked about Seyi Shay and her
blunders in the media, controversies and
supremacy battles between him and other
rappers, as well as his relationship with
ladies.
Lastly, he spoke on his soon-to-be-released
album titled Lafiaji and how much it details
his upbringing and early beginnings.
