Panic in Rivers as mysterious black dust fills the air
Reactions have trailed the statement by
the Rivers state ministry of environment concerning the Black Soot found
in the atmosphere and on the floor in and around Port Harcourt and it’s
environs.
Below are the takes of Nigerians on the issue.
Charly Austine said: "Yesterday,
it was a small boy mysteriously trapped in a wall, today, mysterious
black dust from the sky, let there be mysterious money from above
tomorrow so that we would believe the end is actually near."
Bright Uwumarogie said: "Na waooo, how
do pple think sef. Mysterious my foot. It's the black soothe from
Indorama Petrochemical and smoke from meat roasters in slaughter market
and the black dust is around the area close to these two places."
In
his own take, Kenny ChukwuEbuka Uzochukwu was of the opinion that there
is nuffin mysterious about the black soot. "It's just air pollution
from oil companies," he stressed.
Omojesu Jesuferanmi said: "Honestly
im based in port Harcourt and that black dust or whatever is true and
so terrible and im so sensitive to dust. Now i made up my mind to close
ALL the windows in my house, leaving the AC n fan on everytime for
ventilation.I'm always mopping the house everyday and the water will be
sooooo black.i can't walk without my stockings or slippers on inside the
house.when i blow or clean my nostrils with white handkerchief, you'll
see the black stains.
Even when i cough
its always black but it has reduce since i started closing the windows.
Only God knows where the stuff is coming from. I just pity the little
children who can't really protect themselves."
Royal Tams Fubby in reply to comments about the end time being at hand, said: "So
black dust now signify end time, you're forgetting about the activities
of bunkerers, the military burning boats with products, and the
activities of a tank farm in the heart of PH, pls it has no bearing with
end times, and besides chapter what and verse what of which book in
your bible."
Charles De Charlie affirmed the situation saying: "Yes
I have heard even from my sister. It could be out of climate change as
results of many burns to ashes around the state years back. That might
cause that. Not end time. Even though we're in end times. It's not a
sign of end time."
Unwana Nkanga said: "This
is as a result of industrial activities from some companies around that
led to air pollution which affects the atmosphere. There is nothing new
here, but apparently not the signs of the (end time)."
In a similar vein, Oluchi Aaron Amasiani said: "Yes
am in ph, my house is far from slaughter and petrochemical, but this
black dust is everywhere in my house, cars, first I thought it was my
house alone but every one around me is complaining of the same thing."
Morgan Ugoeche Chiemeka said: "Pollution!
The worst is that no Government agency prepared or trained for such
emergency.. innocent people will still inhale the unknown smoke which
might result bad later or sooner but who cares? Sad the kind that of
things we are going through."
